When I came to pave a road at Camp Sunnyside as a pro bono job for my father’s construction company, I didn’t know the clients and families served by the organization were about to take hold of my heart.
At the time, my wife Jenny and I were raising a young family. Seeing children with and without disabilities learning together in the Child Development Center and watching everything going on at Camp that summer made it really easy to start caring about the mission of Easter Seals Iowa.
Since that time I’ve been fortunate to have served on the Easter Seals Iowa Board of Directors and currently serve on the Foundation Board. Jenny and I have left a percentage of our estate to benefit Easter Seals Iowa.
When you see what’s going on, how Easter Seals Iowa serves clients and gives them opportunities just like everyone else, it’s a need I hope everyone can get behind.
Modeling how to leave a legacy to our three daughters is also a factor in our giving.
We’re raising our children to be independent and gainfully employed. I want them to see there’s a reason you’re working. Beyond just your own needs, there are things you can do with your money to help others. I hope by example we will impact them and remind them of that.
